Motor Vehicle Accidents

The traumatic experience following a motor vehicle accident can leave you hurting both physically and emotionally. We understand the difficulty and frustration of trying to recover from your injuries all the while trying to go about the normal routines and tasks of your daily lives.

When we are involved in a motor vehicle accident (MVA) we often we do not feel the effects of that accident or the associated whiplash symptoms until several hours or even days after the initial injury. While the injuries that can occur during the course of an accident are numerous, most frequently there are complaints neck pain and post-concussion symptoms. Each of these injuries are important to address as quickly as possible, as most of the recent research on whiplash associated disorders state that the most improvement is gained during the first 12 weeks after an accident, and that improvement after that is much slower.

During your initial evaluation at Pacific Physical Therapy we will assess the range of motion (ROM) of your cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine segments to help determine where your specific dysfunction may be. In doing so, we can prioritize our treatment approach to help give you the quickest pain relief, and begin with restoring the normal function of the joints and muscles surrounding your spine. We address loss of cervical proprioception with the use of the Motion Guidance™ laser system. Our therapists utilize this tool help give proprioceptive feedback to our patients, and so they can focus on engaging the smaller muscles of the head and neck to maintain a proper posture with cervical movement. When cervical proprioception is restored, a graduated cervical stabilization and strengthening program ensues that allows the patient to regain function and mobility without increased pain.

With therapy that focuses on the individual and with a personalized plan of care to address the patient’s concerns, Pacific Physical Therapy’s goal is to restore function and allow you to enjoy a healthy, active, pain-free lifestyle.
